8.21.08
hi...

It's hard to believe that the summer is almost over.  Carsyn has grown and changed so much since his birthday in May.  I have finally accepted that he's not a "baby" anymore, but he's a "big boy" a toddler and is exhibiting signs of it each and every day.  The first evidence is in his speech.  Carsyn is talking so well, speaking in sentences and saying new words every time we turn around.  His current obsessions are animals, cars and motorcycles.  He is definitely all boy!  Well, since my updates are usually so wordy, I decided to tell the rest of this story using few words and mostly pictures.  Enjoy!

We all started taking this seriously...

which means we've seen enough of this to last a lifetime!
this is how carsyn feels about me posting the above picture...
sorry, kid.  first of many yet to come.

for all the great potty efforts, carsyn got this:
we also got rid of the crib and upgraded to this (thanks, papa for making it!)
which led to mommy doing all of this to carsyn's room:

let's see what carsyn thinks...
what!?!?!?  oh, you were just kidding?  okay.  so what do you REALLY think?
that's better :)

it has been a busy and wonderful summer at the evans house.  hope yours was just as full of fun and adventure and less naked bottoms :)

love,
steve, melissa & carsyn

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful summer weather and the holiday weekend!  We all went to see fireworks on the 3rd and Carsyn really enjoyed them.  He kept saying, "Mom, fire...boom!  boom!"  He did enjoy how beautiful they were in the sky until later that night when he heard them going off in the neighborhood...it wasn't so fun then, but we made it through.

Carsyn has turned 2 since the last website update.  I know I say this often, but I can hardly believe how fast the time has gone by.  We had Carsyn's party at the zoo and it was definitely memorable.  The forecast was sketchy all week but we decided to just go ahead with the plan.  Everyone showed up with great attitudes, armfuls of gifts and umbrellas.  Unfortunately, we needed them.  It kind of sprinkled on and off throughout the day, but right when we were ready to cut the cake and open the gifts it was literally hailing.  The wrapping paper was so soggy Carsyn barely had to rip the gifts open!  The day was full of funny events...my poor nephew, Aaron, got pooped on by a seagull and a little bird was eating away at Carsyn's cake.  It really was a fun day for everyone and Carsyn loved it.  Because of the nasty weather it felt like we had rented the zoo out for ourselves for the day!  The animals were very cooperative and we got to see more than we ever have before.  The baby rhino was definitely the favorite for the day.  Here are some pictures:

One of my favorite pictures from the day...it's raining and everyone is smiling!

Carsyn and his snake cake...he was eating all the spots, the gumball eyes and the airhead tongue way before it lunch was even over!

poor, poor Aaron...

this was the scene about 2 minutes after we got into the van :)

Carsyn enjoying time with MeMe.

Carsyn is just full of personality and smiles and freely passes out hugs and kisses.  We've been working on him to say "I love you" or "love you" and today it paid off!  I was carrying him into his room and he hugged my neck really hard and said, "Love you!"  Wow...it was so powerful to hear those words from him without any prompting.  Being a mom is so wonderful and powerful and tiring and challenging and fulfilling and rewarding!  How can one little word mean so much?  Incredible, is all I can say!

Right now Carsyn is completely and 100% obsessed with all things airplane, diggers and motorcycles (or bikes as he likes to call them).  He always has at least one of these things in miniature form in his hand at all times.  Where we live there are always airplanes flying overhead and Carsyn can spot them no matter how high up in the sky they are.  It's one of the things I truly love about having a little boy...how they attach themselves to things and want to carry them around in their hand.  It makes me smile every time.

There's lots more pictures under the picture tab on the left...please take a look at how cute and how big our little guy is getting.

Enjoy the summer!

Love,

Steve, Melissa & Carsyn

may 8, 2008

So much has happened since we last edited the website.  I honestly thought people had stopped looking at it, but Microsoft just sent me an e-mail with viewing reports and this tiny little website is getting over 100 views a month!  It's incredible that people stumble across it and I hope it is a help and encouragement to everyone who does.

Where do I begin?  Carsyn is going to be two years old in 10 days.  Wow, I am the mother of a full fledged toddler!  He is so fun and energetic and 100% BOY!  Carsyn loves to play with cars, talk about choo-choos, antagonize Nugget (our dog) and watch Sesame Street, Dora and Diego.  He is talking in a language that oftentimes requires an interpreter and he loves to walk around holding my cell phone between his ear and shoulder and dialing up any number of our friends and family on his own!  Just a few weeks ago Carsyn called and invited my sister, Lori, over to Budja's (Gramma's) house for pizza.  Lori called and asked if Carsyn was the only one who wanted her to come over or if she truly was invited.  It was so cute!

Carsyn has a very loving and affectionate personality.  He freely gives out hugs and kisses and smiles and says "hi" to everyone we pass when we're out.  He loves to sing and dance and ride his bike...all the time.  The bike is definitely the favorite thing right now...oh, and hopping.  He loves to hop all around like a frog.

Our life is so full and complete with Carsyn a part of it.  With Mother's Day just around the corner I realize once again how blessed I am.  I reflect on how many Mother's Days went by with my heart breaking and my arms empty.  Now, this Mother's Day I have the greatest gift of all...I'm a mother!

Lovingly,

Steve, Melissa & Carsyn

march 10, 2007...

wow, time sure does fly!  i sat down at the computer tonight and realized i haven't updated the website in TWO months!  sorry, but hopefully i can redeem myself ;)  as i'm sitting here typing steve and carsyn are wrestling on the floor and the sound of baby laughter is filling the room...still can't believe it sometimes.  carsyn is 8 days shy of being 10 months old...no more single digits!  i can't believe that either!  it seems like he started to do everything at once.  he has 6 teeth (4 on top, 2 on the bottom), he's still army crawling but can move at lightning fast speeds, he says "uh-oh", "mama"...both only when he feels like it...he loves to play pat-a-cake and is just the joys of our lives!  carsyn and i went to florida to visit the durham grandparents for 10 days in the sunshine and we just got home yesterday.  steve sure did miss his little boy.  last year when i was in florida was when we got the call that a carsyn's birthmom wanted to meet us and this year he was a busy 9 month old boy crawling and climbing and filling everyone's hearts with joy and love!  i'm posting some picture under the "pictures" tab in my best attempt at a chronological order.  i may not caption them all as there will be quite a few as i have 2 months to cover!  enjoy them...we sure do enjoy the moments behind them.

love,

steve, melissa & carsyn

A SURPRISE PARTY!!!!

Yummy food prepared by Aunt Annie and Aunt Margo.
Thank you for the perfect finish to such an amazing event!
Jessie kept tickling Carsyn with her scarf and he was loving it...such a flirt already!

On Saturday we had an adoption party for everyone who wasn't able to attend on Wednesday.  The theme of the party was the 'Lil Prince...perfect for our baby boy.

What a cute cake...with a cute baby on it made especially for you with love from Aunt Lori.
Here's the party decorations that Mommy and Aunt Lori made for Carsyn's Kingdom.  After the pictures is the "fairy tale" that Mommy wrote to explain the party and all the fun decorations.  It was such a nice day...such a good feeling to know that Carsyn is ours forever and ever and ever!

Our Fairy Tale:
Once upon a time in a land not so far away, there was a beautiful fairy trying to find her place in the world.  In order for her to earn her fairy wings, she had to help someone.

One day while walking through the woods wishing for her wings, the fairy stumbled upon an old soup can.  "Hmmm..." she thought, "I wonder what might be under that can."  So the fairy picked the can up and underneath was a beautiful silver ball.  At first the fairy only saw her reflection, but after taking a closer look, she saw a couple crying.  "I wonder why they're so sad?"  She gently placed the ball next to her ear and heard the couple saying how empty their hearts were as they had no baby to love.

Seeing the couple so sad made the fairy sad, but then a thought made her happy!  If the fairy could help the couple, she could get her wings.  But where would she ever find a baby?!?

The fairy looked night & day, day & night for a baby, but there were none to be found.  When the fairy had all but given up hope, she saw a fair maiden in the distance.

The fairy slowly walked toward the girl.  As she got closer, the fairy saw the maiden held a baby in her arms...how exciting!...yet the girl was not smiling.  The young maiden was talking out loud to herself..."I already love my little prince, but I can't give him the kind of life I want him to have.  Maybe somehow I could make a difference with my decision."

After the fairy heard all of this, she softly rolled the silver ball so it would stop near the maiden's hand.  The maiden looked down and saw the silver ball.  The fairy was hoping and wishing the maiden could see the couple too, and she did!  "But how will I find them?" the maiden said.  "I'll help you," said the fairy as she stepped out from under a flower.

So the maiden and the fairy walked as far north as the path would take them, where they found a little cottage with warm, glowing lights.  Nervously, they knocked on the door and there they were...the couple from the silver ball!  The maiden told them her story and as she did, everyone was crying.  After a few moments, the maiden looked at the couple.  "Will you take my baby boy?  Would you raise him and surround him with love and family?  Will you have my little prince?"  Without hesitation, the couple said, "YES!  We will love the little prince and we will always tell him about you and how brave and unselfish your decision was."

At that moment the fairy felt a tingly feeling on her back and then a "poing" and a "zing!"  She looked back and she had beautiful, glistening wings.  The fairy flew around the room and the new family...the couple, the maiden, and the little prince laughed in delight and they all lived happily every after.

The end.

what a way to start 2007!
Carsyn's First Christmas

Our first Christmas with a baby sure was a hectic one.  We wanted both sides of the family to be a part of it, which involved a lot of time in the minivan, but it was well worth it.  Friday night before Christmas we drove to Flint and stayed the night with Grandma Evans, then got up bright and early Saturday morning to drive to Buffalo, NY to see Grandpa and Grandma Durham and the rest of Melissa's family.  We stayed there Saturday, Sunday and Christmas morning and then drove back to Flint to celebrate Christmas night.  WOW!  Carsyn is such a good little traveler and did really well...even as we got pulled into immigration and waited in two hours of bridge traffic going into and out of Canada.

Carsyn really got into opening the packages.  We'd tear the paper a little bit and let him pull the rest.  He caught on rather quickly and really enjoyed seeing what was inside making the most adorable little faces in response.  It sure was fun for all of us.  He was definitely interested in the wrapping paper and boxes, but really enjoyed the toys and clothes inside as well.

Honestly, it seems like just yesterday Carsyn looked like this...
But it's now six months later and here he is...

Mommy still wants me to be a baby, Daddy's dying for me to be able to play t-ball and I'm just figuring out how to get my legs and arms to get me around!  I'm not quite there, but it's right around the corner.  I love playing on the floor and laughing and Zoe and Nugget!

This is my favorite toy for tummy time.  Mommy picked it up on a whim at a garage sale and I think it's great!  It lights up and makes all kinds of noises when I touch it.  Look how good I'm sitting up too!  I did this for the first time last Tuesday, November 14, 2006.
I'm not sure what to think about my new found independence, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.
The camera LOVES ME!  Daddy dressed me up in my Sunday best for church last Sunday.  At the last minute, Mommy added the bowtie...it was the perfect addition and so photoworthy!
Who can resist a face like this!
Trick or Treat...He's DEFINITELY a T-R-E-A-T!

These pictures are from early October, but they were so cute we couldn't resist sharing them.  We almost missed the colors...took this pictures the day before the rain came and the leaves all blew away!

Yep...that's right...not even 5 months old and my parents already took me to "Sin City!"  Vegas was really nice...nothing like we thought it would be.  Mommy really wanted a picture like this and we almost didn't get one.  Grandpa took this on the very last day!
Our first day in Vegas, Daddy, Mommy and I walked "the Strip".  Seriously...we walked the whole thing and it wasn't as short as it looked!  We made several stops along the way, one of which was meeting the Green M&M at M&M World.  It was such a fun place!  You can visit their website at www.mmsworld.com.

This is Daddy and I inside M&M's World.  They had every color Plain and Peanut M&M you could imagine!  Mommy bought us a variety bag of all the unusual colors.
These are the fountains at the Bellagio with the Paris Hotel in the background.  Mommy, Uncle Randy, Heather, Caitlin and Jon rode the elevator to the top of the elevator while I was home in bed.  I absolutely LOVED the fountain show which were every 15 minutes and were perfectly choreographed to music with lights.  It was so much for my eyes to enjoy and we stayed and watched every show!  So for Christmas, I want the Bellagio Fountains (hint, hint!)
Here's me and my nanny cuzzy, Caitlin, inside the Venetian.  The ceiling was painted so it looked like daylight outside.  It was really amazing.
As the saying goes, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas."  Don't tell my Daddy and Mommy but I picked up this showgirl (or rather, she picked me up) down on Fremont Street.  Not bad for a five month old!
We left Vegas for the weekend and drove to Arizona.  On the way we drove right over the Hoover Dam so we stopped and took a tour.  I'm such a good traveler and I love it when Mommy puts me in the "pack."  This is Daddy, Mommy and I in front of the Hoover Dam.
After stopping at the Hoover Dam, we drove to Flagstaff, Arizona where we'd spend the next couple of nights.  The next day (Saturday) we drove to the Grand Canyon.  I loved walking around outside and checking everything out...I'm super curious!
Here's me with Grandpa and Grandma Durham.  They love to spoil me in every way!
We spent the last two days of our vacation back in Las Vegas.  We went to Circus! Circus!  It was a casino but on the second level there was a circus tent with circus acts every half hour.  We all enjoyed it.  Grandma Durham paid for my very first ride...A choo-choo train.  I didn't know what to think of it, but after a little bit, I started enjoying it.  Future thrillseeker?  Only time will tell!
Do I like this ride or not?!?!?
I sure was happy when Grandma took me off that silly train.  My favorite ride is in anyone's loving arms!
We really enjoyed our vacation and I enjoyed my 2nd trip across the country!  Wow, at this pace I'll see the world by first grade :0)
***********************************************************************
This picture was taken tonight (9/19/06) while Mommy was feeding me my rice cereal.  Don't tell Mommy, but I don't think any of it got in my mouth!
Now we're talking...I looked super cool in my Adidas tracksuit.  I even had Adidas sneakers to match, but they're hurt my toes when I tried to curl them up so Mommy had to take 'em off.  The "I Love NY" t-shirt is from Amber.  That's my friend, Brianna's mommy!  Her and my mommy were in the same adoption group so that makes both of us really special.
This past weekend, Gramma Evans came to see me.  The hat I'm wearing is one my cousin, Heather, bought for my mom and dad when they first wanted a baby...6 or 7 years ago!  They sure were happy to have my cute little head to put it on and so is Gramma Evans.
Here's a picture of our new house.  Daddy and Mommy are doing their best to make it cozy, but there's still lots of stuff to unpack.
After we got most of our things moved into our new house, Mommy, Grampa, Gramma and me went to Petoskey.  We had a picnic by the Bay...one of Gramma's favorite spots!  Everyone else ate Pizza Hut, but I drank Good Start...mmmm!
This shirt says it all...I was "Born to be Cute" and I'm so good at it!  This is while we were in the process of moving to our new house.  Gramma Durham is holding me here.
This picture is a little fuzzy, but you can't beat that smile :0)
Here's one more of me and Aunt Lori in the hat she gave me.  Daddy thinks I look really cute in it and it fits me just right.
Mommy and Aunt Dormi thought it would be funny to take my picture on the table with all the decorations around me.  Aunt Dormi tied streamers around me.  Mommy says I look like Baby New Year.
My Aunt Lori came all the way from New York to see me 'cuz she missed me SOOO big!  Aunt Dormi decorated her house so cute for my baby party.  I had so much fun and I got to eat ice cream cake too.
Look...I really DO have a Mommy!  We hardly ever get any pictures together and this one is 'specially cute.
Here's my proud Gramma Evans giving me my afternoon bottle.  She loves to hold me and shower me with lots 'n lots of kisses.
This one was of the funny shower games.  Aunt Dormi froze little plastic babies in ice cubes.  When the ice cube melted, and the baby was free, you had to shoud, "My water broke!"  Mommy was the second one to win.  Hurry for Mommy!
On August 11, 2006 Daddy, Mommy, Nugget and I drove to Michigan.  Zoe had to stay home 'cuz she's a kitty.  This picture is of me with my Great Granny and my Great Aunt Carol.  She lives in Tennessee and this is the first time I ever met her.  I put on a good performance, that's for sure.
Yep...it's another new outfit.  This one's from Grampa and Gramma Durham.  Gramma loves giraffes.  Hmmm...I look awfully cute in yellow too.
I've been so busy wearing a new outfit everyday!  I'm growing so quick that Mommy doesn't want me to miss out on wearing a single one...whew!  It's exhausting!  Then Mommy wants to take pictures too...it's hard work being a baby :0)  This outfit is from my cousin, Heather.  I know, I know...I'm ADORABLE!
Grampa & Gramma Durham came to visit me.  It was nice to have someone hold me and feed me besides my Daddy & Mommy...tee hee!  Gramma says I've gained weight and grown since she got here 'cuz I've eaten SO many bottles.
Aunt Lori sent this hat with Grampa & Gramma.  It's the first hat that actually FITS me!  I'm following in my Daddy's footsteps.
This past weekend we stayed at the Hampton Inn in Birch Run, Michigan.  Mommy and Daddy took me swimming.  I LOVED it!
Heather, our neice, took these amazing pictures while we were home over the 4th of July.  I absolutely love them...this is just a few of the many that are my favorites...

The Prince Has a Royal Bed!
Last weekend Steve and I set up Carsyn's royal sleeping quarters.  Aren't they grand?  My brother, Craig, and my sister-in-law, Ann, gave this beautiful bassinet to us as a gift.  We put it in the living room so our visitors can admire it...and the gorgeous baby that will be sleeping in it!  We think it's just beautiful and a perfect welcome for the new prince!
Casey and I also went on a little shopping trip and I found this rug....
And this lamp...
at Pier 1 Imports.  They were the perfect finishing touches for the nursery.  The books on the dresser were a gift from my friend, Amber.  We're looking forward to the day when we'll be holding Carsyn and reading these books to him!

The First Official Gift
Last Tuesday I got a call from Mary Ann at our local library.  She had a present for Carsyn.  I went and picked it up and, of course, had to take pictures of it.  It was so exciting to receive the first "official" gift for our son and isn't it so cute?!?!

Our First Baby Shower!
This past Saturday (April 22nd) we had our first baby shower!  My friend, Casey, was the host and we had a really nice turn out.  I opened presents for over an hour!
It was SOOO much fun!
I can't even believe that I'm the one holding the ADORABLE baby clothes!
This present brought tears to my eyes.  My mother-in-law gave me a picture of Steve being held by his Dad wearing this shirt...since Steve's dad passed away several years ago, this present was very special.
My neice, Caitlin, got us these adorable shorts!  I can't wait to see Carsyn in them.
This outfit is one of my favorites!  Steve is a HUGE baseball fan and we have plans to go to a minor league game shortly after Carsyn is born.  This will make for a great photo op!  At Wal-Mart we found little shoes with baseballs on them...too cutie!
My mom had someone knit this gorgeous sweater set for us.  I'm definitely planning on putting it on Carsyn for the trip home.  I'm sure he'll look beautiful!
Random Photos
Here's my mom getting on her "Grandma"!  This is our friends baby.  They adopted her five weeks ago and she is absolutely gorgeous!  My mom held her the entire time I was opening gifts.
The original "baby"...Nugget.  He just got his hair cut and yes, he really IS a cocker spaniel!
Our second baby, Zoe.  You can tell she has a really rough life at our house!  In this photo she's sleeping on our bed underneath my bathrobe...we found her like this during the baby shower.
The FINISHED NURSERY!!!
My sister, Lori, did such an AMAZING job on the nursery.  We worked Thursday night, Friday morning, Friday night and even Saturday morning in order to get the bedding all finished in time for the baby shower.  Everyone commented on how gorgeous it is!  Lori bought all the fabric and made the biggest part of the bedding, my neice, Heather, made the letter "C" and it really finishes the room and my mom helped out with the sewing and helping us get things done and my friend, Kyla, helped me paint the room a few weeks ago.  Thank you Lori, Heather, Mom and Kyla for making Carsyn's room a little haven.  Carsyn, your room is ready...you can come home any day now!
Only a few more weeks and Carsyn will be living in here!  It's so unbelievable and SO incredible.  We love you Carsyn...see you soon!  Mommy & Daddy
